Great photos. One thing that would be good to track is the class angle on who does sex work. As a young guy any illusion about the “ industry” flew out the window when you noticed that sex work was done almost exclusively by poorer working class girls or even illegal migrant women. Hard to be romantic about it.
The "beauty of a girl on a pole" is definitely a thing since a human body can sparkle -- even with flaws. What brings that down a few notches are the incel males gazing on the spectacle with thoughts of god-only-knows-what bouncing around their brains.
Here is the thing , Americans are puritanical about sex. It’s in your culture to have a high level of tolerance to extreme violence than accept people have sex. In Europe and places like Australia etc the argument about making sex work legal and safe has been decided long ago. America tortures men and women who work in any capacity to earn a living in this field.
To be honest I’ve never been in a more boring environment than an American strip club. I once couldn’t get a hotel room in DC and had to spend all night in a strip club there. The workers were polite and helpful and most were students studying. They were just making ends meet. The customers were young men who thought they were connecting to women somehow
I was grateful as outside the club was the sound of police cars and occasional gun shot.
Yup. I was in the Navy when I was 19 and you'd think that the testosterone rich environment would make me a good candidate for strip clubs. Took me about two visits to get bored by it. The women did their job just fine, but I realized that relationship between me and them was on the same level as a bank clerk or cashier at the grocery. Friendly, polite, maybe even cheerful, but it's not going past the service person/patron relationship.
My understanding is that young American males have become emotionally stunted. The causes and consequences of that are as myriad as they are detrimental. Scott Galloway has lots to say about it.
Sadly lot of guys only connection to women is thru porn. They don’t even have any buddies ( or money ) to make it thru the door of a strip club let alone engage a sex worker. This generation of young men are in a bad way. I feel for them. Porn until very recently was pretty rare occurrence. Now these young men are drowning in this misogynistic garbage and lot of it is violent. I know lot of feminists find Playboy abhorrent but you can’t compare the nudes of Hefner to the bile being streamed today on peoples phones. Over a third of the viewers of Pornhub are actually women so they don’t get off the hook either
Anora reminded me of Uncut Gems in how frenetic it was. Everyone screaming at once. I think you either hate that or love it. I loved that part of the movie.
Susannah, you are a delightful hoot. I am totally enjoying your articles. You got a great writing voice. I am glad Susie Bright mentioned you and your articles. Merry Christmas. Mitch Tropin

Live this! The straights never know the real story, the real heroes and the actual fact that girls rule! And yeah…guys…we drool.

Susannah, what a great list! I read and looked up everyone you mentioned. So much talent.
